EXECUTION: TRIAL BY COMBAT

Sunday morning starts peacefully enough, until around noon, when alarms start going off on your phones. The dreadful noise is accompanied by a reminder of the execution taking place in the Central Node. You can snooze the alarms at first, but they begin to get a little more insistent. If you're being stubborn, you can probably hold out until exactly 1 PM, when an archway opens right in front of you and pulls you in.

Today the Central Node is eerily quiet and empty. There are a few blankets laid out on the grass for those of you who wish to sit instead of standing the whole time. No refreshments have been provided, but the Residents are already there waiting for you.

As the last person enters the node, an enormous archway suddenly opens. This archway once again leads to an area which is pitch black inside, with white and grey dust falling softly like snow. The chilly air feels even colder than before, and you instinctively know you must not approach it. If you try to push through anyway, something is blocking your way. Smaller tears to the same space open in the air, at the very least. You can see what's happening, even if you can't follow.

Because - once the archway is open, Atsushi and Vin alone will begin to walk through as though drawn. All you can do now is watch and wait.

[ Everyone, your feet are frozen for the time being. You can talk and hold hands or whatnot. This includes your Residents, who seem to be present this time. ]

[ As you stand here and watch this unfold, you start to think to yourself ... what if you also have something inside of you, biding its time. waiting to push its way out of your skin, and harm the ones you love.

you can't shake the feeling. a small edge of that nauseated, overwhelming feeling you had when you saw someone else transform last week. could it happen to you too? ]

vax is here, in his armor, mouth drawn into a thin line and expression stormy. he walked here with vin, and he doesn't look even remotely surprised when it's her, though he leans down to say something quiet to her as she continues to work - if you're really listening, you'll hear it. i love you. be careful.

..

after that, he's just silent, watching the proceedings, his emotions somewhere between worry, anxiety, steadfast resolve, and a horrible torrent of grief. ]

[With my three, Kumon is running a fever. When he watches Vin and Atsushi walk in, he curls up so he's not looking at what's happening beyond the archway.]

[ ruby comes up, after seeing this, and holds tight to vax's hand. giving it a firm squeeze. ]

[decisions]

[ percy is standing here watching with his eyes and their pink-lensed glasses trained forward. there's a sensation of sturdiness that comes from him, a quiet resolution, and maybe just. a little bit of hope.

and then vin walks in, and well... a quiet flash of worry.

he stands still though, wearing a deep blue sweater and a white collared shirt underneath. pinned to the collar is a familiar looking silver rose pin. ]

kazunari will be right next to kumon as usual, an arm around his shoulders, trying to his best to give calm, reassuring vibes. ]

Danny stands beside Kumon, hovering worriedly. ]

Suddenly, a painful spike of anger and sorrow as she watches Atsushi and Vin walk through the archway. Nogiku's face remains impassive, though her hands ball into fists at her side.]

[ damien sure looks calm for someone who's emotions are a hellscape!!!!!! ]

[He tilts into him, but the emotions rolling off of him are anxiety, stress and worry.]

[clarte glances to where ruby is, as a request echoes through their mind ("make sure ruby isn't alone?"), but seeing that she's with vax, they relax. just slightly.

they don't seem surprised to see vin there, but they watch, grim.]

[ oh her emotions are a mess. worry, sadness, anxiety...etc.

she hates this. ]

[ squeezing back! there's a quietly warm, familial affection thread underneath the rest of that mess of emotions for ruby, something more reassuring. ]

[ the mood is "this sucks" over here, and that's not wrong. ]

[She's watching, her face...surprisingly emotional, crushed. For someone who usually stands her ground, she's no longer a steel wall of emotion like before.]

I knew it.

[The vibes are absolutely sorrowful and heartsick, here, mixed with anxiety, a seemingly new emotion for Hot Pants, thrumming under the surface. To see these two fight....its devastating.]

[ he's here, just placing a hand on vax's shoulder and staying very still with his eyes trained on the scene at hand.

he'll take his grief and his stress and anxiety and just silently marries it with what strength he can offer, his own worry and anger seething beneath. ]

[he's here, during this, just. staying next to vax without saying anything.

his own emotions are mostly quiet focus. a little concern mixed in, at that anxiety and grief coming from vax. but he's maintaining something steady, at the least, in hopes that'll help.]

[ crow's emotions are.... kinda tempered. but more like he's purposely keeping a lid on them as much as he can.

get close enough and it's a bit of a mess all up in there, especially when vin walks forwards as well. ]

[ it doesn't really help, but prompto can have a lil nod. you tried, buddy. ]

[jiuqing doesn't seem surprised at all to see vin walking through that archway - there's no surprise in her feelings.

there is worry, though - and anger, and regret - though it's all sort of muted and blanketed by a sense of calm that grows a little bit stronger when jiuqing fiddles with the amber stone on her hairpin. a normal week she could just try to make sure she looks composed; this week, since everyone is sharing feelings, she's trying to force herself to be composed instead, so she doesn't project worry and anxiety everywhere and turn the peanut gallery into a feedback loop of bad vibes.]
