Unnerving. That may be the best word to describe how the vibes feel as your sight begins to clear and you find yourself on the ground. The air is chilly, and you don't see anything that may represent the sun or the moon for a sense of time. You look around expecting to find some sort of buildings, wildlife, or anything of use, but your immediate line of vision only shows a sprawling monochrome landscape.

Are you feeling adventurous? As you get to your feet, you have the opportunity to wander further and begin assessing the situation. You'll quickly find that the only thing on your person are the clothes on your back. Traveling will eventually lead you to a few areas, though none of them appear very promising either.

Don't stray too far, however. While there are few hints of plant life (nothing nourishing, nothing satisfying), you won't find much else. There's no food or running water; resources seem scarce. The further you go, the more you begin to feel colder and weaker. Your eyes begin to play tricks on you, and everything ahead of you looks unfocused and even more gray than before. An imminent sense of danger hangs above you...you can't quite pinpoint why, but your gut instinct says there's something else out there just lying beyond your reach.

Perhaps you'll have luck another day. For now, it seems as though your only option is to make use of the areas you do have access to and try to settle in. But don't worry, you aren't alone. There's 35 other people just waiting to see what you'll do next.

Welcome to your weekend zero intro to chroma! While characters have access to the locations available, they do not have access to anything else including their home items. Please note that characters do not know what their primary color or complementary colors are as of yet, and IC profiles are not in-play at this time.

Things of note!

► You can find food (cotton candy, stale hot dog buns with no hot dogs, etc) in the carnival, but none of it is filling. It's monochrome, and you're hungry again five minutes later.
► There's water in the mansion but it's kind of grey.
► Seriously, it's cold.
► You arrive in your canon outfit. It is also monochrome, like someone drained the dye out of your clothes.

Considering the very real aversion to going too far outside of these areas, that's probably not too far off the truth. [ the rain in the carnival area doesn't necessarily help, but. you know. even for someone who comes from a non-magic world he's inclined to believe a few more things than he normally would today. ] Line of sight visibility seems to be about all we're afforded, whatever it is that's going on.

[daggering]

[ he makes an agreeing noise, looking for a little longer - and then after a moment gives up with a huff. after that, he turns to hop down, graceful and soundless and landing neatly on the ground nearby. ]

Cursed as hell, if you ask me. [ where's dispel magic when you need it ]

[ another small twist of a face at that, this time with a little displeasure mixed in. ]

Color gone from nearly everything, not even a little warmth no matter how many layers we're wearing - [ he moves an arm, to adjust his cloak ] - shadows moving at the corner of the eye everywhere, senses of dread and discomfort and hunger...

"Cursed as hell" feels right.

[daggering]

Yeah.

[ vax has been to some weird places in his life. this place feels weird. it feels feywild weird. it feels ziggurat weird. it feels raishaun's cave weird. it feels tomb weird. ]

Whatever it is, its pretty clear we don't belong here, and this place or whatever's doing this knows it.

[ it feels weird to chang geng in a way that feels intimately familiar - but a quality, rather than a place more specific.

he doesn't like it. his fingers flex a little, but are woefully empty of anything that could bring comfort, so he drops his hands both to his sides. ]

Well, we can stand here and wonder about it all we like, waiting for whatever's in the shadows or behind locked doors to jump out. But I think pushing our luck at least lets us pretend we're being productive.

[daggering]

Well. I do like pushing my luck.

[ (liam o brien voice) im going to use luck ] And we're all stuck here together for the moment, anyway. You got a name?

[ anyone who climbs shit is absolutely bound to push their luck, but especially if they're going to keep trying to squint into a yawning void. definitely glad he made the right judgment there. ]

In an empty place like this, it's better than nothing. Especially with children here. [ a soft tsk, but - still your polite boy. ] Chang Geng. And yours?

he. yeah, pretty much matches that tsk with a scrunched nose frown of his own. hard agree. ] Vax. Pleasure.

I'm trying to get a lay of the land. Might do us all a favor to know wherever we're stuck until whatever stuck us shows its face.

[ he looks up to where vax came from, then turns, frowning as he considers the carnival around them. ]

This place seems to be the most complicated of the ones I've seen so far, so it may take longer to get the terrain. But if we have some high, and some low, we might be able to cover the ground more readily.
