Unnerving. That may be the best word to describe how the vibes feel as your sight begins to clear and you find yourself on the ground. The air is chilly, and you don't see anything that may represent the sun or the moon for a sense of time. You look around expecting to find some sort of buildings, wildlife, or anything of use, but your immediate line of vision only shows a sprawling monochrome landscape.

Are you feeling adventurous? As you get to your feet, you have the opportunity to wander further and begin assessing the situation. You'll quickly find that the only thing on your person are the clothes on your back. Traveling will eventually lead you to a few areas, though none of them appear very promising either.

Don't stray too far, however. While there are few hints of plant life (nothing nourishing, nothing satisfying), you won't find much else. There's no food or running water; resources seem scarce. The further you go, the more you begin to feel colder and weaker. Your eyes begin to play tricks on you, and everything ahead of you looks unfocused and even more gray than before. An imminent sense of danger hangs above you...you can't quite pinpoint why, but your gut instinct says there's something else out there just lying beyond your reach.

Perhaps you'll have luck another day. For now, it seems as though your only option is to make use of the areas you do have access to and try to settle in. But don't worry, you aren't alone. There's 35 other people just waiting to see what you'll do next.

Welcome to your weekend zero intro to chroma! While characters have access to the locations available, they do not have access to anything else including their home items. Please note that characters do not know what their primary color or complementary colors are as of yet, and IC profiles are not in-play at this time.

Things of note!

► You can find food (cotton candy, stale hot dog buns with no hot dogs, etc) in the carnival, but none of it is filling. It's monochrome, and you're hungry again five minutes later.
► There's water in the mansion but it's kind of grey.
► Seriously, it's cold.
► You arrive in your canon outfit. It is also monochrome, like someone drained the dye out of your clothes.

They certainly gave you decent enough lifespans...

[for a creation, anyway. a thousand really isn't that much by his estimation-- he doesn't seem thrown off by it.]

But to have been made that long ago, there certainly should be more records of your creation.

I mean, yeah, if immortal is a decent lifespan. Heh, you sound like you've never heard of vampires before.

I am unfamiliar with the concept, yes. Mayhap they are simply a type that rarely occurs.

[it sits poorly that they'd have will and intelligence and be rather unknown, but still.

Huh. I've been the last for a while, but everyone's heard of vampires anyway. They're in all kinds of stories.

[ she is finally rubbing her two brain cells together, ]

From-- no. I cannot say I have ever heard of such a place.

I wonder if Etheirys is similarly unfamiliar to you.

Mmm nope. Never heard of it. [ she seems pretty calm about this? ] Guess we're both in a new place. Some alternate dimension maybe?

One I would vastly prefer to leave, given the unacceptable state it exists in, but I suppose we are not to be so lucky.

Yeah, I doubt we can just waltz on outta here. [ HUFFS!! ] All my powers are fritzed out, so whoever's responsible is pretty powerful. And pretty annoying.

So it is something of a widespread problem... troubling indeed.

[a huff of a breath, before:]

Well. Once we find this space's creator, I shall certainly have some choice words for them-- either they have deeply neglected it, or they ought not be creating at all.

Soooo are you some kind of cosmic being or deity or something? Or is this just a "I made my own people and if others are doing it wrong I feel like I should tell them" thing?

There are oversights in the process of creation for good reason. It is meant for the betterment of the world, not... whatever this is.

[it's fucking terrible. look at what you did with this world it's got depression? maybe?]

Yeah, it's pretty dang bleak. [ she agrees 100%. it has depression. it's hard to disagree. ] I dunno about betterment though. Life's kind of cycle-y, isn't it?

[ktiseos]

It has ever been cyclical, yes. We come to exist, and one day fulfill our purpose and return. But in the time we choose to spend as a part of our world, it is our duty to contribute to its well-being.

[theampirequeen]

Mmm. I think most of life missed the memo on that. [ pensive. ] Not that it's always bad, just that it kind of does its own thing, you know? People do what feels right for them, not always the world.

[ktiseos]

What is best for the world ought to be what is best for them.

[a little disbelieving, there.]

And it is truly most of your world that behaves so?

[theampirequeen]

People don't always live long enough to know that kind of stuff, man. [ why does she sound amused that he's shook at this. ] People vary. Some want to make the world a worst place for sure, some wanna just get by, and some wanna do good. They're all just people. Even the awful ones.

[ktiseos]

-ah. I suppose a more finite lifespan may contribute to seeing things so.

[hm. still troubling, though, fingers tapping idly on his arm.]

But it is still difficult to imagine why one would desire to make things worse.

Some things are just kind of born evil, man. I don't know what to tell you.

[ktiseos]

...a troubling sort of existence. If this is simply the way of things in... Ooo, however, then I must wonder if something ever went wrong.

[there's no good reason to just-- make things that are created evil.]

There was the Mushroom War... things got kinda way more messed up after that. [ hm. ] But there was bad stuff before that. So, I dunno. Mars and some other dimensions have the same deal as far as I know.
