WEEK SEVEN: ENDGAME
ENDGAME

Sunday morning starts peacefully enough. After the events of yesterday, it was probably a relief to go about your evenings, reveling in the presences of your friends and loved ones, grateful to be alive and well. Everything is quiet until around noon when alarms start going off on your phones. It’s a gentler sound than the noise that once alerted you to the executions to take place on Sundays. You can always ignore it until 1 PM, but then you’ll blink and find yourself back in the Central Node once again.
The color in the node seems a little brighter as the archway where the Tree once stood continues to shimmer. The fog has gently blown back, revealing an opalescent area just past the entrance. It’s warm and it’s inviting, little tears in the air around it showing off different places you may know as home.
You get the feeling that perhaps, finally, the Prism has listened to your wants and desires. Nothing is forcing you out right away, though nothing is making you stay either. The clock from the Tree continues to tick, counting down to twenty-four hours from now.
The Prism isn’t what it used to be, though all of the nodes have reverted to somewhat pleasant locations albeit drab. Take a tour of places you haven’t seen before, or say goodbye to the places you grew fond of in your time here.
Take your time to say goodbye. There's nothing stopping you from going to someone else's world - but you'll find you need to be careful. The Prism is a delicate thing, constantly in need of balance. You'll need to maintain it, if you're going to use it to go from place to place. All it takes is color - something strong, both positive and negative. When you come through to visit other worlds, you have to offer something that you have faced from home, big or small. A good day, the happy vibes from a birthday party, the sad vibes from a funeral, the pain of an injury. Coordinate, and take care of the space you have cultivated. It's your responsibility now to make sure the Prism doesn't try to hurt itself in its confusion.
You could even stay here if you wanted, now that the Prism’s cleaned up again. You'd slowly forget, just like the Residents did, but it'd be a long process. You could live a normal lifespan in peace.
Or don’t. So many of you are ready to return from where you once came. And that was never really the point, right? You have to face the music. It was always about taking your problems head on, and not running away.
Your phones will still work no matter where you go. You may not always be able to be together in person, but you'll always be in each other's contact lists.
As for your Residents, both current and past? It seems that Thinker, Revenge, and Scout have all vanished, their items mysteriously missing and pieces of themselves left to be regained. As for Dreamer... you don't know what happened to him.
For the living Residents, well. Fret, Rindo, Caduceus and Ei have a decision to make, too.
Make good choices, now. Balance is key.

Nogiku has a good haul of stuff with her when she returns to the Central Node, looking very much like a woman who's prepared to march right into the depths of hell. But— just for a moment, she pauses to watch the seconds tick by on the clock, touching the scar on her face that she never quite got healed in the pods. Should someone happen to approach her, she turns to them with a small, tired smile.]
Are you departing soon?
no subject
Mm. I think so.
[the swords are somewhere being swords, but for now... Itsuki holds up the phone in his hand,]
Do you think these will still work wherever we are?
no subject
... I don't know. It would be easier to stay in touch, if they did. [Instead of just sweatily vibing through life until their 10 year murder high school reunion.
She glances at the swords... wherever they are.]
Send me a picture of their place when you get there. As a test.
no subject
You have to send me a picture back too, okay?
[DON'T LEAVE HIM ON READ LIKE HIS LAST MESSAGE he was dead LIKE HIS LAST MESSAGE]
no subject
But she nods, looking at him a bit strangely.]
There isn't anything worth taking s picture of where I'm headed, but I'll see what I can do.
no subject
It doesn't have to be a picture of a place. Think it'd be nice to see if you're okay every now and then.
[selfie nogiku onegai]
no subject
Yeah. I've got a whole company waiting back home.
You'll keep in touch, right?
no subject
[Because. Revenge comes first.]
You and Miyoshi-san will be throwing a big celebrating as soon as you're home, huh?
no subject
[He nods.]
I dunno about a big one, but we're gonna go check out all the new stores we missed.
[Sometimes you are a normie who gets pulled away from home for a weird murder side adventure.]
no subject
[It feels so strange, honestly. RIP for the poor souls who are gonna get tossed immediately into crau2.]
What about you, Nogiku?
no subject
Yes, in a little while. But I wanted to say my goodbyes, in case... this is the last time we meet.
no subject
Ah, I guess that's true... we don't know for sure if this will work properly.
[Also some of you are going off to die and stuff]
no subject
...we'll go eventually. Probably when most of the others are gone.
no subject
Have you decided what to do, Rindo-san? You were undecided yesterday.
no subject
I think...we're gonna have to go back. Shibuya's still home, so to leave it now as things are doesn't feel right.
no subject
[she nods! she is dressed like a ye olde fantasy chinese woman again, since it would probably freak people out and/or get her killed if she showed up in a war zone wearing clothing they didn't recognize.]
I assume you are as well, Miss Nogiku?
no subject
Yes, in a little bit. Though I wanted to say my goodbyes, just in case this is the last time we meet...
no subject
[she smiles. if they can pass through here, and if they can stay in touch - it should be possible to plan visits.]
I hope we can see each other again.
no subject
Pretty soon, yeah. Even if it's not a forever goodbye, I still wanna make sure I see everyone off, y'know?
no subject
I understand. I mean to stick around for a little longer to do the same, after all...
no subject
Yeah... I mean - it's gonna be weird, right? Going back to just... regular life and all after all of that.
no subject
no subject
It's gonna be kinda sad for the people who, like... won't feel safe or comfortable telling those in their lives, y'know? But at least we can all hold commiseration parties together.
