WEEK SIX: EXECUTION

Sunday morning starts peacefully enough, until around noon, when alarms start going off on your phones. The dreadful noise is accompanied by a reminder of the execution taking place in the Central Node. You can snooze the alarms at first, but they begin to get a little more insistent. If you're being stubborn, you can probably hold out until exactly 1 PM, when an archway opens right in front of you and pulls you in.

Today the Central Node is eerily quiet and empty. There are a few blankets laid out on the grass for those of you who wish to sit instead of standing the whole time. No refreshments have been provided, but the Residents are already there waiting for you.

As the last person enters the node, an enormous archway suddenly opens. This archway once again leads to an area which is pitch black inside, with white and grey dust falling softly like snow. The chilly air feels even colder than before, and you instinctively know you must not approach it. If you try to push through anyway, something is blocking your way. Smaller tears to the same space open in the air, at the very least. You can see what's happening, even if you can't follow.

Because - once the archway is open, Clarte alone will begin to walk through as though drawn. All you can do now is watch and wait.

[He is not watching what is happening in front of them, but he flinches every time he hears screams.]

[ glad he put on the headphones. kazu holds onto his hand a little tighter as danny starts to cry. ]

[9mon]

[There is so little he can do and he is so stressed (8). He clings tighter onto Kazunari's hand.]

[dms]

[ well he hasn't fainted yet so that's something? i guess? he can't offer any reassuring words through the headphones, so he just rubs circles on the back of kumon's hand with his thumb instead. ]

[9mon]

[His breathing seems to even out slightly, slowly.]

[dms]

[ ...kazunari sighs, and scoots a little closer so he can at least make sure that kumon can rest easy without falling over. danny's got his other side, so that helps... maybe. ]

[9mon]

[He is, at least, still managing to sit up. His vision's going blurry, but that's only because of the tears welling up. Even if he's not watching, and not listening, he can feel the reactions of the two beside him (18).

How does he help? He never knows. These Sundays are things he's never had to experience before arriving in the prism. There's no frame of reference for any of this.

Nobody should have to experience it. And yet, here they all are.]

[ kazu just gives his hand a squeeze because what else is there to do? a friend is dying in front of them and everything sucks. ]

[9mon]

[He still has the headphones on, looking at the ground instead of anywhere else.]

[dms]

[ there was like half a second of relief, but kazunari tenses as nogiku grabs danny, kisses him, questions him. ]

...Don't look, okay?

[ kumon probably can't hear him anyway, but kazu's also pulling him closer, so he can't see whatever might happen with danny. just in case. ]

[9mon]

[He cannot hear a single thing that is happening while these headphones are on. Kumon knows Kazu is on this side. What happened to Danny? Why-

Kumon clings onto Kazunari.]

[dms]

[ kumon can't hear, but it doesn't matter - kazu keeps speaking softly to him, little reassurances he can't promise will hold true, turning away to cough up some orange and purple petals.

his eyes fall on a couple of others after danny starts to speak again, and he holds onto kumon a little tighter. ]

[9mon]

[He has absolutely no idea what is happening right now, but he can feel the way Kazu is couching, he can see the petals and he wonders... if he should look back and see what's happening.

...

He buries his face in Kazu's shoulder. If it was fine, he'd be let go, right? If it's... if it's bad (and in this place, it will be), it's better if he doesn't look.]

[dms]

[ would love to pull kumon away but WE'RE FROZEN AGAIN?! he squeezes his eyes shut and twists just enough that kumon won't have to see danny even if he does lift his eyes. ]

Don't look, Kumopi, don't look--

[ he's shaking a little, but he doesn't let go. ]

[9mon]

[He's more lost, but he understands something bad must've happened. Danny... isn't here, pulled away and he's not back and...

They could move for a moment, and then once again they're locked in place. Just like that time.

Dread.

Don't look. He won't look.]
