WEEKEND ZERO: OVERFLOW

WOW

Unnerving. That may be the best word to describe how the vibes feel as your sight begins to clear and you find yourself on the ground. The air is chilly, and you don't see anything that may represent the sun or the moon for a sense of time. You look around expecting to find some sort of buildings, wildlife, or anything of use, but your immediate line of vision only shows a sprawling monochrome landscape.

Are you feeling adventurous? As you get to your feet, you have the opportunity to wander further and begin assessing the situation. You'll quickly find that the only thing on your person are the clothes on your back. Traveling will eventually lead you to a few areas, though none of them appear very promising either.

Don't stray too far, however. While there are few hints of plant life (nothing nourishing, nothing satisfying), you won't find much else. There's no food or running water; resources seem scarce. The further you go, the more you begin to feel colder and weaker. Your eyes begin to play tricks on you, and everything ahead of you looks unfocused and even more gray than before. An imminent sense of danger hangs above you...you can't quite pinpoint why, but your gut instinct says there's something else out there just lying beyond your reach.

Perhaps you'll have luck another day. For now, it seems as though your only option is to make use of the areas you do have access to and try to settle in. But don't worry, you aren't alone. There's 35 other people just waiting to see what you'll do next.

Welcome to your weekend zero intro to [community profile] chroma! While characters have access to the locations available, they do not have access to anything else including their home items. Please note that characters do not know what their primary color or complementary colors are as of yet, and IC profiles are not in-play at this time.

Things of note!

► You can find food (cotton candy, stale hot dog buns with no hot dogs, etc) in the carnival, but none of it is filling. It's monochrome, and you're hungry again five minutes later.
► There's water in the mansion but it's kind of grey.
► Seriously, it's cold.
► You arrive in your canon outfit. It is also monochrome, like someone drained the dye out of your clothes.

Stay tuned for more updates throughout the weekend, and happy settling!

[There we go! Not exactly what he expected -- he thought it'd be more of an electrical arch -- but instead it's more akin to a large laser. Interesting! And pretty deadly, he crouches, trying to put as much distance between him and that beam. Getting away should be--

Oh, Emet got caught by that thing. Damn it, why now?! Running away now means Emet will at the very least get some very serious injuries, not to mention a grudge towards November. Dealing with such a thing when there's so much to investigate already is going to be inconvenient, so better stop this monster while still refusing to get into close combat.

Plan B, let's go! November runs towards the glass shards from the tube, quickly locating the largest and sharpest ones he can find. With practiced movements, he grabs them, not caring he's dipping his fingers into the mess, and launches the shards at the light beam eyeball!

It's great he has a lot of practice at launching sharp weaponry at enemies. True, usually it's ice he has made himself, but November has pretty good aim and the skill to assess how the shards will cross the air, so this should be effective, he thinks!

Supposing it hits the target, of course]

[well! about the whole target situation.

it would probably be pretty easy to try to attack this thing from such close range, but displays like that are generally supposed to make others give a creature space, and he's noted the way that stepping back only seemed to make it worse. jury's out on whether it doesn't want them to leave or whether they just set off a chase instinct or something--

so instead of harming the thing, he's just sort of grappling it after it's leapt onto him, arms reflexively wrapped around it as he tries to ignore the numbness where it's hit him. he can take a hit or three when he needs to, he is fairly positive he can handle this. it's fine it's fine it's fine.]

Calm yourself-

[he grumbles that out, slightly winded from just hitting the floor here, and glances to november-

ah shit. he's trying to evaluate the thing, not murder it.

it's too late to do anything to stop that! emet-selch shifts slightly, cursing when he finds it's a struggle to move one leg, and then he's just going to kind of throw his weight to try to roll the creature out of the way. if he ends up in the way instead, then oops!]

[The thing about Contractors is that their psychology is inclined towards a very specific mindset that favors logical thoughts and rational conclusions. It's cold, it's lacking in emotion, it's straightforward and at times cruel and almost always deadly, but it's an universal mindset Contractors share, with only one single exception as far as November knows. This means that working as a team goes like a well-oiled machine, everyone in the team working with the same purpose and with no deviation at all.

After seeing Emet pretty much bodily tackle the creature and try to roll it out of the way, November really wishes he was with his team instead of witnessing this senseless behavior.

That thing attacked them, he thinks. Judging by the charred walls, judging by the way that wild beam burned one arm near the elbow when he tried to dodge -- burning the fabric and reaching skin -- that thing was dangerous, and now that it's roaming around this laboratory is much more dangerous now than it was before. Emet trying to do anything that wasn't killing that monster is absolutely ridiculous!

Feeling the burn of his, well, burn, November approaches where he remembers Emet was at once the beast left, the darkness hiding his frown]

Come. You'll have to get that acid washed off right away.

[Welp, time to walk in the dark, pal!]

It does not hurt.

[he glances over november with a frown, though, noting that burn.]

See to your own wound first-- the thing must be pursued. Did you not see the color to it? What good did you believe harming it would do over restraining and examining it?

[also it tackled him first, he thinks he's well within rights to have tried to hold it in place. he's already heading off in the direction it bolted!]

[November hears the steps going in the wrong direction. What? What now?

The thought of leaving this guy to get mangled by that beast is looking pretty appealing now, that's for sure]

While I acknowledge your point there's plenty of examining that could be done after it was dead.

[Autopsies are a thing, Emet!]

That may be so, but I would prefer to leave that to the last, particularly if we could have gleaned aught of note from it.

[nothing seems to have color here, so anything that stands out should be studied as thoroughly as possible.]

It could have been kept from harming us, had it not been antagonized further.

[Oh, that definitely was a not very subtle way of blaming November for escalating the situation. He scowls, pretty unhappy]

You're severely underestimating that creature and the damage it can do. Failing to restrain it would put everyone else in danger as well. Eliminating it to ensure the safety of the group was the only option that made sense.

[He says that, knowing very well everyone's safety was absolutely not what he had in mind at any point]

I assure you, I am not. Handling such threats is a part of the duty of my seat, and I have seen far worse than that creation; it may well have been easier to restrain had it not been under attack.

[a huff of a breath, there, as he continues stalking after the thing.]

If it came to it, then yes, I would not have hesitated to put an end to it for the preservation of the others-- but I do not believe it necessary to have acted in such haste.

[Outright saying it's a ridiculous argument, thankfully, is not something November tends to do but he's thinking it, that's for sure. Neither of them is bound to change their mind, hah]

What would it have taken for you to decide putting that beast down was necessary? Go ahead, tell me that!

More than a singular attack, certainly.

[it's not like debate will change anything that actually happened, but if there are more incidents in the future-- well. maybe it'll be worth something, then.]

A singular attack is all it takes for anything to go wrong in a way you can't take back! For example, your own injuries. For all you know you're already on your way to a senseless death.

[The darkness may be hiding the way the acid discolors Emet. If November could see it he sure would be taking a goooood look at his own burn, to monitor it in case he's losing color as well]
