WEEKEND ZERO: OVERFLOW

WOW

Unnerving. That may be the best word to describe how the vibes feel as your sight begins to clear and you find yourself on the ground. The air is chilly, and you don't see anything that may represent the sun or the moon for a sense of time. You look around expecting to find some sort of buildings, wildlife, or anything of use, but your immediate line of vision only shows a sprawling monochrome landscape.

Are you feeling adventurous? As you get to your feet, you have the opportunity to wander further and begin assessing the situation. You'll quickly find that the only thing on your person are the clothes on your back. Traveling will eventually lead you to a few areas, though none of them appear very promising either.

Don't stray too far, however. While there are few hints of plant life (nothing nourishing, nothing satisfying), you won't find much else. There's no food or running water; resources seem scarce. The further you go, the more you begin to feel colder and weaker. Your eyes begin to play tricks on you, and everything ahead of you looks unfocused and even more gray than before. An imminent sense of danger hangs above you...you can't quite pinpoint why, but your gut instinct says there's something else out there just lying beyond your reach.

Perhaps you'll have luck another day. For now, it seems as though your only option is to make use of the areas you do have access to and try to settle in. But don't worry, you aren't alone. There's 35 other people just waiting to see what you'll do next.

Welcome to your weekend zero intro to

chroma! While characters have access to the locations available, they do not have access to anything else including their home items. Please note that characters do not know what their primary color or complementary colors are as of yet, and IC profiles are not in-play at this time.

Things of note!

► You can find food (cotton candy, stale hot dog buns with no hot dogs, etc) in the carnival, but none of it is filling. It's monochrome, and you're hungry again five minutes later.
► There's water in the mansion but it's kind of grey.
► Seriously, it's cold.
► You arrive in your canon outfit. It is also monochrome, like someone drained the dye out of your clothes.

FRIDAY, AFTERNOON

► The atmosphere is cold and dark, and everything is in shades of grey. You won't find much here.

SATURDAY, NOON

► The carnival has gotten colder and rainer, and the loud sound of honking appears to follow wherever you go. Occasionally, bands of colorful clowns appear and charge you menacingly, cackling loudly and honking, before exploding in a hail of confetti. After this happens, you feel drained.

► Nothing much about the mansion seems different … until you wander into the bathroom. There is now a working shower! Running water! Amazing! It will last for about 2 minutes of a wonderful warm shower, before turning ice cold and the only soap is 3-in-1 body wash/shampoo/conditioner, but you know. Better than nothing. The water is also potable, if a bit sour tasting, and has an odd silvery sheen to it. There are no towels.

SATURDAY, EVENING

► The temple has become even colder and darker. Strange shapes flicker in the darkness, taking on creepy ghostly forms and dive bombing you. If they come close, you feel drained and weak. There is the sound of someone sobbing behind the door in the back, but the more you approach it, the more aggressive the ghosts seem to be.

► The lab has gotten pretty dicey. The lights flick off more frequently, plunging it into total darkness. It seems the escape of one its inhabitants has stirred up the others, breaking loose of their tubes and yearning for sweet, sweet freedom. Monsters now roam the halls, stalking silently, ready to attack at a moment’s notice. If they get near you, you’ll feel drained and tired, and in spitting range of their numbing acid that leaves burn marks on you.

► Your 3-in-1 body wash/shampoo/conditioner ... is missing! Tragedy.

As you explore the carnival, you hear the faint sound of honking, growing ever closer by the second.

As you explore the temple, dark shapes begin to manifest just out of the corner of your eye, and a chill runs down your spine.

As you explore the laboratory, you hear the sound of something wet and slimy sloshing down one of the dark corridors.

saturday in the mansion;

[it's cold! which isn't terribly surprising, given how cold it was yesterday, but here she is. she'd been trying to tough it out, but now she's shivering and sitting next to the fire that doesn't actually warm her, drawing her fancy silk robes tighter around herself and breathing on her hands to try to warm them up.]

I suppose it was foolishly optimistic to hope that things would be a little better today...

saturday at the carnival;

[sometimes a bitch is thirsty.

which is to say! jiuqing passes through the archway into the carnival and immediately steps aside out of the way of anyone else who may be coming through, then cups her hands to catch some of the water. she eyes it for a few long moments, considering the color of it, and then sighs and brings it to her lips to sip at it.

well. that's a little better. she feels silly doing this, but dehydration's a bitch, so she' snot going to risk it.]

[he's running. he's a blur. he's not stopping - buzen probably laps you about twice with the pace that he seems to be just doing loops around the available locations!! though when he runs past you for the third time - it occurs to him to stop]

[so about those shadows wandering the area - buzen is just going to keep trying to creep closer to them, up until they disappear right before his eyes. he repeats this multiple times. in fact there might be a shadow nearer to you and he's just going to mouth from afar and start gesturing before he just whispers loudly]

I. central park?

well, here's the arrival prompt.

when chang geng comes into focus, there's something sharp in his expression, a blink and you'll miss it sort of alarm - and then he evens out again, as if this is absolutely normal. he reaches, right above the leather of his bracer in the crook of his elbow, pinching without looking down, scanning the area, taking it in.

pensive concern, there. but alright. he can work with this. and he'll very diligently check on whoever's arrived in this place, too.

II. a moment of prayer

exploration is eventual on friday, and chang geng is not particularly inclined to sit around and wait for answers. his wandering, cautious and calm, brings him to... something a little familiar. the temple is more dong ying than it is something from great liang, but he's regardless drawn to it.

its upkeep, though... dryly:

well, he's going in! crossing the bridge, anyways. he doesn't pay much mind to whether he's accompanied or not.

come saturday, he's just - hanging out here. seated on as clean a patch as he could find in the temple, ignoring the banging door, appearing to be meditating at the moment.

III. salvage attempts

so. in the mansion? chang geng is just picking through various rooms, going from placidly on guard to getting vaguely tired of all of this shit. you can find him checking out what sheets there are here with a sort of disdain, actually, which broaches on disappointment.

when he notices someone's joined him, he holds up one in particular that's raggedy and... bloodstained. you could hope it was chocolate. it probably wasn't.

There's nothing wrong with being optimistic as long as you're working to ensure things do get better.

[sneaking, you say? vax and vin can sneaksneak around the carnival as the rain falls around them. the honking continues, but it's soon accompanied by another faint slap slap slap sound on the ground.

both sounds grow closer, almost as if something is rushing toward them in excitement. it's hard to make out what's ahead, but they get a short glimpse of color through the perpetual gloom around them.

unlike a CERTAIN DRAMATIQUE IDIOT he is wearing his normal outfit! Well, sort of. (Does that chestplate look like fake armor? Maybe. Don't worry about it.) Catch him rubbing at the back of his neck as he looks around, frowning.]

[He seems pretty calm about the whole color thing, though--at least, until he looks down and sees his sad, desaturated haori.]

2. temple

[well HOT DAMN it's something familiar! Yasusada's immediately nyooming over here across the bridge, though he does pause and lean precariously over the railing to try and peer into the water down below.]

Do you see any fish?

[Alternatively, he can be found hovering anxiously outside the shrine and peeking in the direction of that CREEPY-ASS DOOR. Who is in there. What is that. Is it Oodenta.]

Maybe we should knock back...?

[Even as he says that, though, he doesn't look like he wants to get anywhere near it??? SOMETIMES A YASU CAN HAVE SELF-PRESERVATION SENSES.]

3. carnival

[This place is so creepy but honestly it gives him less spook vibes than the temple does, so he's cautiously exploring. At some point, he stops near the poor impaled horse decorations, frowning.]

he is going to sneak closer to the oncoming noise and color even as it starts approaching - though, he gives vin a quick upwards nod, then a quick jerk of his head to the side, and will move to press himself to the closest carnival wall. tent wall? ride wall? whatever is closest so he can watch whatever it is honk honkily closer. ]

So Tsuru-san's a friend of yours, huh? He must be pretty funny if he could pull off something like that!

[she's on edge immediately as the noise approaches more quickly, though the splash of color against the monochrome landscape is encouraging. either way, she takes his suggestion easily, backing up until she's next to him as she stares towards the approaching... whatever it is, ready to move if it turns out not to be friendly.]

truly hope vin still feels that way in a few moments. as the two of them hide on the side of a ride, they will soon see a small cluster of bright colored clowns approaching them. their faces are painted, but they all appear with wide smiles and honking merrily as their shoes slap against the ground through small puddles of rain water.

the clowns don't speak, but as they spot vax and vin they wave! they seem very excited to see the two of them, and they loom a little closer as their hands gesture joyfully. one of them appears to be riding a unicycle, one is clutching a set of juggling pins that they show the two of them and the last clown is holding a hula hoop.
