Unnerving. That may be the best word to describe how the vibes feel as your sight begins to clear and you find yourself on the ground. The air is chilly, and you don't see anything that may represent the sun or the moon for a sense of time. You look around expecting to find some sort of buildings, wildlife, or anything of use, but your immediate line of vision only shows a sprawling monochrome landscape.

Are you feeling adventurous? As you get to your feet, you have the opportunity to wander further and begin assessing the situation. You'll quickly find that the only thing on your person are the clothes on your back. Traveling will eventually lead you to a few areas, though none of them appear very promising either.

Don't stray too far, however. While there are few hints of plant life (nothing nourishing, nothing satisfying), you won't find much else. There's no food or running water; resources seem scarce. The further you go, the more you begin to feel colder and weaker. Your eyes begin to play tricks on you, and everything ahead of you looks unfocused and even more gray than before. An imminent sense of danger hangs above you...you can't quite pinpoint why, but your gut instinct says there's something else out there just lying beyond your reach.

Perhaps you'll have luck another day. For now, it seems as though your only option is to make use of the areas you do have access to and try to settle in. But don't worry, you aren't alone. There's 35 other people just waiting to see what you'll do next.

Welcome to your weekend zero intro to chroma! While characters have access to the locations available, they do not have access to anything else including their home items. Please note that characters do not know what their primary color or complementary colors are as of yet, and IC profiles are not in-play at this time.

Things of note!

► You can find food (cotton candy, stale hot dog buns with no hot dogs, etc) in the carnival, but none of it is filling. It's monochrome, and you're hungry again five minutes later.
► There's water in the mansion but it's kind of grey.
► Seriously, it's cold.
► You arrive in your canon outfit. It is also monochrome, like someone drained the dye out of your clothes.

[ you ever just see someone and think "ah, same"

the girl vanishing away from the group does not miss vax's attention, and he pulls the hood of his own cloak up to go do his own investigating; the minute he catches sight of her again, he slips into the laboratory behind her, soundless and quiet.

so, when the strange whispering noises start and she turns and sees him - well, he's not whispering, but vax is there, a similarly cloaked and hooded stranger in stealthy clothes. there's a beat, like he wasn't expecting to be seen. ]

Not a local. [ obviously ] You?

[allomantic]

...Not a local, either.

[she looks incredibly wary even after he explains that, but she at least doesn't outright say she doesn't believe him. she shifts slightly, trying to make herself small (well, smaller) almost by habit as she thinks about what she wants to ask next.]

How did you get here?

[daggering]

[ she's so little. tiny. small!!!! this shifty skulky behavior doesn't bother vax any at least. ]

's a great fucking question. [ a little chuff. he can hazard a guess, maybe, but its rare enough he gets sent off places without some explanation. ] But if I'm here, something's fucked up about it.

Any idea how you got here, either?

[it sets her at least a degree more on ease - if he were lying about how he got here, she imagines "i don't know" wouldn't be at the top of the list of cover stories people would make up. so she shakes her head at his question, but after that she falls silent for a moment. it's a very awkward silence.]

It's... strange. [obviously.] The sky is wrong.

vax, who also stands there in awkward silence, looking around the room.

anyway ] The whole place is fucked up, yeah. Sky especially. The black and white's beyond weird - apparently it touched the people who woke up here, too.

[ he reaches up to his hair, as if trying to find something - then, eventually, pulls out a feather that's a light gray color. ] Not that I could tell beyond this, but that's par for the course.

[ sometimes you're a goth ]

[she glances down at her clothing as well. slowly:]

No, I guess we wouldn't have known.

Maybe that makes us the only ones here with any sense.

[sometimes you aren't accustomed to friendly joking from someone you just met. vin get better at social interactions challenge.]

[ he tilts his head. ]

[she looks like she's debating on answering, but after a moment:]

[ he seems very pleased. ] Fuck if we haven't met, you sure we aren't long lost cousins or something? Hah.

[she's a little amused, too, even if she pushes that down a little as not to show it.]

Is it an uncommon name where you're from?

[daggering]

Something like that, yeah.

[ not really, necessarily, but... well, it's just a familiar name, and one that makes his heart warm. ] Next thing you know, people'll start confusing us because of it, though. Too similar. That I know from experience.

[ heh!!! ]

[she looks up at him.]

...People would have to be very near sighted for that to happen, I think.

[gasp... a joke... it's very dry.]

[daggering]

snorts ] Yeah. Or pitch blind.

But, forget that -- they'd have to see us first, anyway, sneaky. [ he is equally dry and very broadly amused, grinning a little. because its the pot calling the kettle black once again ]

They've made it pretty easy for us.

[since they match all the non-colors going on here, now.]

Although I guess that's assuming someone designed it this way... It could just be a normal part of this place.

[daggering]

Nn.

[ the noise is thoughtful; vax reaches up again, absently brushing against that light gray feather. ]

Can't imagine that's good for anything. [ or them. people still have their hair color and skin color and all, but... ] Might explain why there's nothing alive around, either.

[she tilts her head slightly.]

There are plants. [they're very dead, but.] Something could be grown here, if they did it once.

[daggering]

With the right kind of magic, yeah.

[ ...

that brings back a memory - there's a brief flicker of pause, but he shakes his head. ]

...Sounds like we better find whatever's killed the life and color here and take care of it. That's how that sort of thing works. Fix the problem, revitalize the place, get out.

[she doesn't miss that pause, but she doesn't address it. there's a small frown on her face as he continues.]

You think it will be that easy to change an entire landscape?

[daggering]

[ vax snorts, loudly!!! ]

Fuck no, are you kidding? It's never that easy. [ LITERALLY NEVER he doesn't seem that bothered, just a little dramatic. ] Sure we're in for a whole heaping pile of bullshit to come before that happens.

[allomantic]

[her mouth twitches into an almost smile for maybe a moment before her expression goes back to normal.]

Probably. [...] What kind of magic were you talking about?

[daggering]

[ ... mmm. a little quieter. ]

...Druid stuff. I know someone who would've been able to. Who's done it - we still had to take out the big baddies before it took fully, but it worked. Brought back a place that'd been drained by a vampire and a sorceress who were fucked up beyond all belief.

[from the look on her face it's pretty likely she doesn't recognize several key terms in that explanation, but it's fine. after a moment:]
