WEEKEND ZERO: OVERFLOW

Unnerving. That may be the best word to describe how the vibes feel as your sight begins to clear and you find yourself on the ground. The air is chilly, and you don't see anything that may represent the sun or the moon for a sense of time. You look around expecting to find some sort of buildings, wildlife, or anything of use, but your immediate line of vision only shows a sprawling monochrome landscape.

Are you feeling adventurous? As you get to your feet, you have the opportunity to wander further and begin assessing the situation. You'll quickly find that the only thing on your person are the clothes on your back. Traveling will eventually lead you to a few areas, though none of them appear very promising either.

Don't stray too far, however. While there are few hints of plant life (nothing nourishing, nothing satisfying), you won't find much else. There's no food or running water; resources seem scarce. The further you go, the more you begin to feel colder and weaker. Your eyes begin to play tricks on you, and everything ahead of you looks unfocused and even more gray than before. An imminent sense of danger hangs above you...you can't quite pinpoint why, but your gut instinct says there's something else out there just lying beyond your reach.

Perhaps you'll have luck another day. For now, it seems as though your only option is to make use of the areas you do have access to and try to settle in. But don't worry, you aren't alone. There's 35 other people just waiting to see what you'll do next.

Welcome to your weekend zero intro to chroma! While characters have access to the locations available, they do not have access to anything else including their home items. Please note that characters do not know what their primary color or complementary colors are as of yet, and IC profiles are not in-play at this time.

Things of note!

► You can find food (cotton candy, stale hot dog buns with no hot dogs, etc) in the carnival, but none of it is filling. It's monochrome, and you're hungry again five minutes later.
► There's water in the mansion but it's kind of grey.
► Seriously, it's cold.
► You arrive in your canon outfit. It is also monochrome, like someone drained the dye out of your clothes.

[ Oh shit we in overflow mode huh. ]

I've taken a look about the Doman bridge and the sad excuse for a stretch of woods similarly. [ DOES FFXIV HAVE PARKS...? OUTSIDE OF (REDACTED)...? ] I've also given a cursory look to the Garlean-looking laboratory and what looks like the dregs of a festival, if you could call it that, but I haven't an idea of what I was actually looking at.

Doman bridge? I dunno what Garlean is, either... [Oh, to be from two different worlds.] The festival-looking thing was a carnival, though, I'm pretty sure. I've never been to one but I've read about 'em... You're supposed to eat really greasy food that's super bad for you and then go on rides until you get sick?

[He says this with a distinct air of confusion...]

Consider them my world's equivalent of however you perceive them. I've just learned that other stars and life exist, you can't expect me to somehow conjure up new terms other than what's familiar to me.

[He says, seemingly about as ruffled by the existence of multiple realities as he's been about anything else in their conversation so far. He also raises his hands at that!!]

Don't ask me, I'm not the one who came up with it. It's definitely the perfect place for that kinda creepy abandoned themepark aesthetic, though.

It's the liminal spaces vibe! Y'know, humans don't really like places that are supposed to be bustling with life but then there's just nothing there. [...] Also the bloodstains and crying kids are a little weird, yeah?

Also that does sound like something a no-nonsense man would say, so he just sighs.]

It's an aesthetic thing. [CLEARLY this man just wouldn't get it!!] That's not bad, though - I think between the two of us, that's everywhere covered. Oh - except the alley. I went down there real quick and didn't see anything, though.

What, like someone wants to willingly choose the dilapidated look? I'm no fancy noble and if anything, quite dislike the fancier things, but I wouldn't choose this.

Oh, we're majorly on the same page there. But there are a lot of weird aesthetics out there, y'know? And a whole lot of weird people who're into 'em.

[He's seen so much in his time. So many dark places of human fashion and aesthetic...

That gets a curious little head-tilt, though.]

You think they're doing the "hide stuff in the place no one would really think to look" thing?

Oh - 'kay, that works, too. [He also just doesn't question things much! Yeehaw.] It shouldn't take a long time, it's not a big place. It does make you feel kind of sad, though...

I dedicated myself to honing the art of the lance since the first that I begun wielding a weapon for myself. Whatever you would consider 'typical' education was more at the back of my mind. [ Whether that's usual schools, or churches, or whatever. ]

Ooh! Nice, nice - having a totally unique style gives you a pretty big edge. What kinda thing d'you favor, then? Speed over strength, strength over speed...?

The art of the lance is taught to all Ishgardian youths who choose to take it, aside from swordsmanship and archery. [ ...Though he supposes he can't deny he hasn't come up with his own stuff here and there, if normal strategies didn't work out for him. ]

Both are paramount to being a dragoon. Though if you're asking me to choose, I suppose I would say strength.

Huh. S'been a while since I've heard of a place that does that, too... Must be pretty close to wartime for you guys, then.

[Ah, the days when people just got out there on the battlefield one-on-one and stabbed each other violently.]

But that makes sense! You need both to be really efficient... Why strength over speed?

Just ended a thousand years of it, but Halone's city hasn't been freed from being involved in other wars.

[ It just never ends!!! ]

Speed is efficient in survival and escape, but means little if you don't have the strength to pierce through your foes.

[It truly does never end... Kashuu just sighs!!]

Yeah, no matter where you go, war's usually there, too.

[He'd say "with humans" but it is very obviously not just a human problem. TERRIBLE. Well, he knows as much from how things are back home, anyway...]

Super true, though. You sound like a frontlines kinda guy, y'know?

[ I dunno about that. Expand 'human' to a more generic 'mankind' and it seems they're just responsible for every major problem in FFXIV. There's probably a lesson in that. ]

I've seen plenty of the frontlines. Mayhap a bit too closely.

I guess in the end, the world really would be better for the people in it if no one ever had to see any frontlines, huh?

[This is a hard thing for a sword to admit, which is probably why he doesn't sound like an overzealous peacekeeper about it...]

Hey. You could still be used as the personal arms of people for self-defense. Weapons wouldn't be totally obsolete. ]
